A Tribute to King Pleasure

Are you “In the Mood” for a Great Jazz Concert?

The Morgan County Tourism Alliance Presents, “A Tribute to King Pleasure – Bringing Pleasure Back to the People.”

  • Where: Papaw’s Opry Barn and Theater, 3549 Airport Road, Rockwood, TN.
  • When: Saturday, Sept. 9, 5:30 to 9:30 Eastern Time.
  • Tennessee wines will be part of this event, with two of the best wineries in Tennessee offering their locally crafted wines to sample: Highland Manor Winery and The Winery at Seven Springs Farm.
  • Tickets to the concert are $45 per person, or $85 per couple, and include a commemorative tasting glass, hors d’oeuvres, dessert, wine tasting, and almond tea.

The Pleasure Cooker’s Orchestra will be performing jazz music for the evening, with a performance by the Dance Tonight Studio.

Kelle JollyEmcee and vocalist for the evening is Kelle Jolly, “The Tennessee Ukulele Lady.” She is one of East Tennessee’s most celebrated jazz musicians. She and her husband, saxophonist Will Boyd, were the 2015 MLK Art Award recipients in Knoxville. She is the founder of Ukesphere of Knoxville, a ukulele group for all ages. As an ambassador of jazz, she has traveled to Muroran, Japan, as Knoxville’s Sister City representative at various jazz festivals and events. Kelle Jolly is the host of Knoxville’s newest radio show on WUOT 91.9FM (www.wuot.org), “Jazz Jam with Kelle Jolly,” an hour-long show that celebrates great local, national and international singers of jazz. She is also the founder of the Women in Jazz Jam Festival (www.womeninjazzjamfestival.com).

The Orchestra name is in appreciation for Mr. Frank Cook and his contribution of the Opry Barn for this concert. Oakdale, the next town over, is the birthplace of Jazz Vocalist Clarence Beeks, known as King Pleasure. This concert will be the first of an annual musical event to fund the continued endeavors of The Morgan County Tourism Alliance to bring tourism into Morgan County.
